The Carleton

Nova Scotia’s modified Phase 5 came into effect Monday October 4.  The Carleton, in its ongoing effort to balance safety and normalcy, had already decided to be more cautious than the original Phase 5 and we support the announced regulations.

Our sincere thanks to the small but mighty Restaurant Association of Nova Scotia which has worked tirelessly with government on industry’s behalf and regularly package information in digestible format.  Here’s a refresher on what to expect:

• Per the new Proof of Full Vaccination (POV) protocol , anyone age 12 or older who is not fully vaccinated will not be able to access the restaurant.
  • We ask that you show your POV and photo ID upon entering The Carleton.
  • If you have a Valid Medical Contraindication for COVID-19 Vaccination letter, you need to present the letter for access.
  • Contact tracing is no longer required.
  • The VaxCheckNS scanning app to verify the POV QR code digitally should be available on October 22.  Photo ID will still be required.
• Masks are required as they are now.
  • All patrons must be seated to eat or drink (only then can they remove their masks).
  • When a patron leaves a table, they must put their mask back on.
  • For pickup orders inside the restaurant, people must wear a mask (they do not need POV).
  • Staff will wear masks at all times when interacting with guests.
  • If you have a Valid Medical Contraindication to not wear a non-medical mask, you need to present a note from your physician for access.

What’s a little different about The Carleton:

• We will continue to seat guests in table bubbles based on ticket purchases and/or specific requests.
• Physical distancing of tables will reduce from 2 metres (6 feet) to 1 metre (3 feet) to increase capacity.
• There will be minimal seating at the bar. UPDATE Oct 29 – Full bar seating now available.
• We are not immediately reintroducing a dance floor.  Dancing near your table is allowed but masks are required. UPDATE Oct 29 – On Saturday nights and at other specific performances as requested by the artists, there will be a small dance floor. Masks are required.
• With an individual’s written consent, we are permitted to record vaccination status so documents do not need to be verified on every visit.  Still working on how best to implement… more later…

We are happy to be able to bring some much-needed live entertainment to audiences we know are starved for it.”   In addition to eight nights of music at The Carleton, HUFF fans and music lovers will also be treated to shows at Grand Parade Square, Brightwood Brewery and New Scotland Brewery. HUFF has partnered with the City of Halifax and the Patio Lantern Festival to bring free live music to the Grand Parade Square Stage over the Labour Day weekend. The shows at Brightwood Brewery and New Scotland Brewery will take place on September 4 & 5 and will also have free admission. It’s a start!  Great weather predicted tomorrow, outdoor dining is a thing again, and The Carleton has a fresh patio!

Join us starting 2 pm Wednesday June 2nd to celebrate Reopening Phase 1.

As we adhere to the provincial lock down, The Carleton team continues to work with artists and partners daily to reschedule (and unfortunately in some cases cancel) shows that were booked for the venue in May and into June.

One of our local and very talented artists effected by The Carleton’s closure is singer-songwriter Ian Janes, who just released his brand-new album and companion book, Episode 5.

Janes had three full band shows set for The Carleton in early June, two of which were sold out. These shows have been rescheduled for later in the summer (July 15, 16 & 17) but to not disappoint his fans, Ian decided to perform solo from his home studio this Saturday, May 29^th at 8pm AT.

So, to join the festivities and celebrate with Ian and his fans, family and friends, The Carleton is offering a special 3-course ‘Popup Takeaway‘! A little bit local, a little bit southern fried, a whole lot of fun deliciousness!

[UPDATE 28-May-21] Oh happy day! Outdoor dining patios are permitted to open effective Wednesday June 2!

[UPDATE 19-May-21] Restrictions will stay in place until the second week in June. Show rescheduling continues!

Closing all Halifax restaurants to indoor dining effective tomorrow, Friday, April 23 is one of the many lockdown measures announced by Premier Rankin and Dr. Strang this afternoon.

This means cancellation of all Carleton events for likely the next month. We will begin work with artists and partners to determine whether and when we can reschedule, and will reach out to every ticketholder and reservation to confirm or offer refunds.

Stay safe, and please be patient while we work this through.
