Three cool local bands – Tom Rich Band + Leanne Hoffman + Foggy Road – team up for a night at The Carleton on Thursday, September 6th. Show time is 9 PM and admission is $8 at the door.
Tom Rich is a Canadian multi-instrumentalist & songwriter from Lower Sackville, a suburb of Halifax Nova Scotia. Usually a session player on bass guitar, he is now focusing on his career as composer and writer.
With a strong & clear voice, Tom wields his bass guitar with fierce precision. The band consists of Jason Keddy on keys, Adrian Dunn on guitar, and currently they have Dale Wilson on drums. Together, their rhythm is a rock that’s heavy on the roll, reminiscent of the early days of pop music paired with Tom’s 80’s & 90’s inspired voice that has been compared to Grapes Of Wrath & R.E.M. When he’s not with the band, Tom Rich can be found performing covers & originals solo on his acoustic guitar in pubs and other venues local to his Beaver Bank NS home.
Tom’s two independent albums, The Journey and American Fantasy, were tracked in his trailer park home in Beaverbank, Nova Scotia, with Tom on all instruments and arrangements. American Fantasy was entirely self-produced including the engineering and mixing of the recording. He also played and co-wrote in a “side-project” band called The Dang Danglers, a cooperative with fellow Sackvillian Matthew Pickup & brother Luke; as well as playing bass in Pickup’s own band, and Halifax indie-folk group Dark Lit Sky. He has done session work with: Christine Campbell Band, Jonathan Roy, Sam Taylor, The Danger Bees, Scott Saccary, Laura Merrimen and many more.
Singer-songwriter Leanne Hoffman has a voice that is as haunting as it is angelic. She has the rare ability to dress a beautiful melody with content that is both biting and elegant. With lyrics beyond her years, and a smart, sarcastic tone, her audiences are left captivated and wanting more.
Her duo project Magnolia, achieved success throughout Atlantic Canada, charting on campus radio throughout the Maritimes and receiving considerable CBC play nation-wide.
An active force in the Atlantic Canadian music scene, Leanne is in high demand as a backup vocalist, contributing to award winning albums and high-quality live performances since 2011. Her engaging stage-presence and effortless harmonies have taken her throughout Canada, The US and Europe.
Her passion for finding universal meaning in the everyday lyrics of life have lead her to record her debut solo album with Award Winning Producer, Erin Costelo. With a sound reminiscent of Lou Reed and the pop-electric feel of Metric, What Remains is an album that demands attention, just like it’s creator.
Four guys from Chezzetcook – Ryan, Andrew, Kyle, and Zach – found their way onto a rusty old flatbed trailer in the summer of ’04 to play a few cover tunes for a small crowd at a church picnic. Since then, Foggy Road have honed their performing skills and songwriting abilities, both individually and as a group. The loss of one of their musical brothers brought the original members back together to celebrate his life. Since then, they’ve welcomed Jeremy Melanson on the lap steel, which steers the new songs in a different direction, and breathes new life into the older material.
