Singer/songwriter/poet/cricketer/troubadour/searcher/empath… Recent Haligonian and Brit ex-pat JONT, unveils his new band project – The Infinite Possibility – and songs from his upcoming (Joel Plaskett-produced) album – The Way Home – at The Carleton on Wednesday, July 8th. Show time is 8 PM and tickets are $10 advanced or $15 at the door.
I met Jont when he arrived in Halifax a couple of years ago. He dropped into the city like David Bowie in A Stranger In A Strange Land. Based on a cyber-introduction by a mutual friend (Juliette Powell from MuchMusic) we met at The Carleton and after a couple of hours of conversation – after I learned he’d re-located to Halifax because he’d just found out he had a young daughter that lived here – I booked him to play some tunes opening for our anniversary headliners. It went well.
Since then, he’s immersed himself in the local independent music community and works to make the world a better place.
His bio mentions that he was managed by Tony Dimitriades and if you don’t know who that is, you’ll probably know a couple of his other clients – Tom Petty and Fleetwood Mac… Not puppy chow. This new recording (following his excellent Hello Halifax album) is an ambitious musical leap to the next level; you’ll be impressed, I certainly am.
