  • HUFF Presents Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub) & The Halifax All Stars
    September 6, 2015
    9:00 pm - 1:00 am

The Halifax Urban Folk Festival is pleased as punch to be able to finally bring Teenage Fanclub‘s Norman Blake to Halifax, the city with so many musicians inspired by his Scottish band. Norman will be playing with a Halifax All Star band led by uber-fan Matt Mays. Our opening songwriters circle on the night will be Neil Osborne (54-40), Chuck Prophet and the aforementioned Mays. Show time is 9 PM and tickets are $45 + booking fee.

NormanBlake

Few bands have had as much influence on what was happening in Halifax in the early explosion of talent that birthed Sloan, Joel Plaskett, Matt Mays, et al than Scotland’s Teenage Fanclub. As one of its principal songwriters, Norman Blake has a lot of fans here and we’re pleased we can bring them the full rock experience on this night. Doubly cool is that Matt Mays insisted he be included in the All Stars!

NeilOsborne1

54-40‘s main man, songwriter Neil Osborne – who is responsible for a crazy number of hits including, Baby Ran, Ocean Pearl, I Go Blind, She La, Lies To Me and plenty more – gets out the acoustic guitar for this songwriters circle which, if you look at it, is alone worth the price of admission! Neil’s headlining show is on Saturday, September 5th.

ChuckProphet

For those who know, Chuck Prophet is one of the best rock songwriters alive as evidenced by his work with Californian band Green On Red in the 80s, through 13 solo records and recent collaborations with HUFF veteran Alejandro Escovedo. His Temple Beautiful album, about his San Francisco home is a bona fide masterpiece. This latest, Night Surfer (Chuck’s an avid surfer) is now out on Yep Roc and rocks with the best of his work. Chuck’s headlining show is Friday, September 4th.

MattyMays

If you live in Halifax – or Canada for that matter – we shouldn’t have to tell you who Matt Mays is. Local hero, and winner of the 2014 Juno Award for Rock Album of the Year for Coyote, Matt’s as comfortable around a campfire as he on the big, loud, stage. He’ll be sitting in on this songwriters circle before getting back up to bring the rock with his Halifax All Stars in support of headliner Norman Blake. Oh, a little trivia, Matt says Teenage Fanclub’s Bandwagonesque album is one of the reasons he became a songwriter in the first place; playing with Norman is a dream come true for him…
