Local alt-rockers The Flakes, with able support from June Body and Nothing Personal, gang up for a night at The Carleton on Saturday, Oct. 5th. Advanced tickets – are SOLD-OUT! – Limited DOOR TICKETS available $10
The Flakes are a four piece band from Halifax, Nova Scotia.
They abandoned their childhood dream of forming a barbershop quartet one day when a strong gust of wind blew their 50’s style caps into the harbour. Distraught at their misfortune, the boys played until their fingers bled. In a moment that can only be described as fate, the funk came upon them and blessed them with infinite wisdom. They drank their funk shakes eagerly, producing an alt-rock sound with unique flair only made possible by their newfound powers.
June Body went into Halifax’s Echo Chamber studios in early 2018 to record their second release, Life from Underneath. Released in April 2018, the 6-track EP reveals a distinct sonic shift from the band’s debut that is evident within the first few seconds of the album. While retaining the catchy pop-rock qualities of the band’s debut, the new songs exhibit a much richer and somewhat darker instrumental quality, with lyrics that courageously dive into themes about the self, love, death, and depression.
Nothing Personal is a three-piece band of good friends from N.S. They think it’s about time they show all of us what they can do!
