Gabriel Minnikin & Cassie Josephine headline a bill also featuring Ontario singer/songwriter Shannon Lyon and pedal steel player Steve Wood for a night of alt-country goodness at The Carleton on Wednesday, June 21st. Show time is 8 PM and admission is $10 at the door.
Cassie Josephine and Gabriel Minnikin are an Indie/Old-Country/Singer-Songwriter duo from Halifax, NS. They released their first album together, Flower Country, on October 1, 2016.
Flower Country, is an album of gentle twang—soaring harmonies, poetic lyrics, and melodies that both haunt and toe tap. It was conceived as a split, featuring Cassie’s songwriting on “Side A” and Gabriel’s songwriting on “Side B” but with the two coming together as the front-couple to the Flower Country Band,
they took their show to England in the spring of 2016 for a pre-release mini tour and returned for a home-town launch on December 10th in Halifax, NS.
Gabriel Minnikin was a founding member of acclaimed country outfit The Guthries and then a world traveling solo artist touring with the likes of First Aid Kit, Justin Townes Earle, The Handsome Family, Caitlin Rose and his marvellous talent of a sister, Ruth Minnikin. Gabriel recorded his last solo album, Parakeets With Parasols, in Manchester, UK in 2012 and soon headed back to East Coast Canada where he met Cassie just releasing her debut EP, Cutlery ’N’ Cryin. Now, these two songwriters share the stage, their music and a little house in Halifax.
Born and raised in Southern Ontario, Shannon Lyon began his musical career in 1990. Since 1994 Lyon has released 14 albums and has received critical acclaim in North America, Europe & Australia.
