The man, the myth, the legend – Sam Moon – celebrates his birthday with a bash he’s calling Both Sides of the Moon, (two different sides of Sam) accompanied by Doug MacKay – percussion, Jimmy Ralph – vocals, bass and piano, Dave MacKeigan – vocals & guitar and, obviously, Sam! This auspicious occasion happens at The Carleton on Saturday, February 8th. Show time is a civilized 7:30 PM and tickets – while they last – are $30 + HST.
Maritime Singer/Songwriter Sam Moon was born in Sydney, Cape Breton, NS in 1950 . Sam has a music career spanning 60 years performing and touring across Canada and the USA, five years of which Sam Moon and Matt Minglewood toured as musical partners .
Sam recorded his long awaited debut album New Moon in 1982. The single Eclipse cracked C100’s chart at #5 in their year end review. Sam earned a cross Canada Shure microphone award as top East Coast vocalist in 1982. Sam was named “Entertainer of the Year” by the Halifax Herald in the same year. In 2007, Sam Moon was an ECMA recipient. In 2016, Sam Moon and Matt Minglewood won the “Back in the Spotlight” award given by the Canadian Music Express.
In 2011, the well received Never Let Me Go CD was released and some of Sam’s compositions have been recorded by various artists, including the classic Girls of Neil’s Harbour.
Along the way, Sam has shared the stage with many artists past and present including The Guess Who, The Beach Boys, The Band and April Wine. Sam continues to perform in bands and also duo format, supporting many shows and festivals throughout the Maritimes.
