The reading with songs begins at 1:30 PM and tickets are $10 + HST (entry only) OR $25 taxes included (ticket and a pre-purchased book – to be picked-up at the venue)

Doors open at 12pm. Come early to enjoy brunch and beverages before the show! Bring your friends, your mom and dad, your sisters and brothers, and get ready to cry while Linda shares her life-changing journey to love, belonging, and creative healing.

This is McLean’s FIRST OFFICIAL BOOK LAUNCH, and following three sold-out shows in 2024 with her band, Linda McLean and the Awakening, she’s happy to be back at her favourite Halifax venue, The Carleton.  The multi-talented Linda will tell stories and read from her book, and perform some of the songs that accompany each chapter. The pairing of songs with the writing creates a unique and emotional reading experience that McLean will replicate on stage. The event will end with a traditional book signing and lots of hugs, as required. Special Edition copies printed by Gaspereau Press & Printer will be available for sale.

This book came at me like music, plunged into my heart, fired my soul, and created an excitement so potent there was no choice but to write it. My whole world changed when I faced the fact that I am the most important one in my life. I found inner peace, clarity, a sense of belonging, and personal power.”

This is not your typical author’s reading. The Importance of Being Important is a book with songs which gives it a unique and emotional swing. Part memoir, part concert, part inspiring call to action for anyone ready to reclaim self-worth, clarity, and integrity, McLean’s hope is that by the time you finish the book you’ll want to pass it on to your best friend because you won’t need it anymore. You’ll have the tools and confidence to know that you are the most important one in your life—capable, worthy, and ready to thrive.

In the final analysis, McLean reveals, it’s our choices that shape us. To BE the Most Important One is to stand in the centre of our own life—not as more and not as less than anyone else, but as the one who decides how to live fully and authentically.

In celebration of the completion of her memoir, McLean has worked in partnership with Gaspereau Press to create a Special Edition printing. Inside the book is a link to the streaming site for all the songs. A CD of songs with the lyrics will also be available for purchase at the reading. McLean recorded the music at the iconic Sonic Temple Studio in downtown Halifax; intimate and acoustic versions of some of her original songs that emerged and helped in the writing of her book.

Linda McLean has been ranked among the best of her North American contemporaries; “a singer/songwriter in the great tradition of fellow Canadian Joni Mitchell’s ’70’s work”;“country-tinged beauty with reference points stretching from Lucinda Williams to KD Lang.” with, “material straddling the line between roots stylings and an adult contemporary-tinged sound à la Jann Arden or Sarah McLachlan.”

Once in a great while, out of the blue, comes an indie masterpiece. Such is the case of Linda McLean…impeccable songwriting, inventive musical arrangements and great, sensitive vocal work, not to be missed.”— Maverick Magazine, UK

McLeans lyrics are gently introspective and reflective, and they possess the ring of hard- earned truths.”—Exclaim Magazine

Linda McLeans writing has a light and artful touch, beautiful painterly metaphors, comforting wavelike rhythms, rich with subtleties, emotional resonance, and thematic depth.” ‘Dreaming Margaret Atwood’ —NS Writes Creative Non-Fiction Winner
