Dartmouth chanteuse Laura Rae, along with her band and special guest, Halifax’s Andrea Cormier combine for a night of music in English and en Français at The Carleton on Thursday, April 6th. Live music gets underway at 7 PM and tickets are only $14 + HST.
Laura Rae dances between genres, influenced equally by soulful Norah Jones as rock legends Fleetwood Mac. Her lyrics express everyday life, from grief to grandiose tales of walking away and everything in between. Originally from Ottawa, Laura found home in Nova Scotia in 2014, where she spent five years collecting stories for her eventual return to songwriting.
Her debut single Didn’t Know reached #1 on The East Coast Countdown, and was among the top 100 songs of the year in 2021 on CIOE. Glimpses of Ghosts reached #2 on the CKDU top 10 and has been likened to a “cross [between] Adele’s theme of 007’s Skyfall with the theme of one of Star’s albums” (Alex Cook, The East Mag).
Laura has continued to release singles in English and is currently recording her debut French album with the help and guidance of Gabrielle Papillon and Emilie Landry.
Andrea Cormier is a multi-instrumentalist & singer-songwriter currently based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Andrea spent some formative years in the psychedelic music scene of Montreal, playing in band Beachglass and gigging locally. Andrea’s debut solo album, Creatures of Illusion, was self-released in spring 2020. The album cites the textural elements of psychedelic music, weaving delicate 12 string guitar melodies, ethereal vocals and haunting harmonies.
