Following up on her sold out EP release show, rising star Julia Cunningham returns to The Carleton with her full band – along with opener Sadie Skinner – to celebrate the release of a new single on Sunday, November 24th. Show time is 7 PM and tickets are $17 + HST.
Julia Cunningham is a singer-songwriter from Halifax, Canada. After years of quietly sharing her music with local audiences, the Music Nova Scotia grant recipient is stepping into the spotlight as a captivating emerging artist. Cunningham’s recently arrived debut EP, Dive Deep, is a culmination of many years of writing, creating and fine-tuning a collection of songs that are deeply personal, yet profoundly relatable. From her warm vocals to her earnest lyrics to her skillful guitar playing, Cunningham’s folk-pop sound exudes a sense of nostalgia befitting for the end credits of a movie.
Sadie Skinner, a solo folk artist from Halifax, Nova Scotia, transitioned from her role as the lead singer of Indie-Pop Band Steel Cut Oats. Inspired by her grandmother, she embarked on a folk solo project, where her vocals explore a range from gentle to unsettling, breaking from her choral singing background. Her lyrics delve into daily life and the natural world, accompanied by simple guitar and piano melodies, adding a fresh dimension to the Halifax and Vancouver folk scene.
