Our very own Jon Cornwall, Carleton sound man of choice for so many visiting musicians, brings a band with him to celebrate the release of his (finally) completed second album – Great Villagers – with a show at The Carleton on Thursday, July 25th and we say it’s about time! Live music gets underway at 7:30 PM and tickets are $20 + HST.
Jon Cornwall is a seasoned folk and Canadiana artist whose music resonates with heartfelt storytelling and authentic melodies. Growing up with a piano at his fingertips, Jon’s musical journey took a pivotal turn at the age of 15 when he picked up the guitar, spurred by a friendly rivalry with his brother. This decision paved the way for a rich career in music that has seen Jon share stages with renowned artists such as Ron Sexsmith, Jerry Garcia Band, Great Big Sea, and Lennie Gallant.
In addition to his accomplishments as a performer, Jon has spent the past 15 years honing his skills as a sound engineer and producer for other artists. This extensive experience behind the scenes has provided him with a deep understanding of music production and a keen ear for detail, further enriching his own songwriting and performances.
Jon’s dedication to his craft has not gone unnoticed. He received an honourable mention from The Billboard Songwriting Competition (folk), a testament to his lyrical prowess and ability to connect with listeners. His songs capture the essence of life’s experiences, blending the traditional sounds of folk with hints of Canadian country, roots, and even a bit of pop.
After a significant hiatus, Jon has triumphantly returned to the music scene with the release of his second album, a remarkable 27 years after his debut. This latest collection of songs showcases his growth as an artist and his unwavering love of music. With long-time collaborators DJ Timmons, Alana MacLellan-Mansell and Kent Sobey, Jon’s new record ‘Great Villagers’ has love, loss, tears and laughter wrapped up in catchy hooks you’ll never forget.
