Due to circumstances beyond our control, we’ve necessarily had to take a year off from our beloved Halifax Urban Folk Festival but that doesn’t mean we can’t pull off a couple of cool shows to keep its memory alive while on hiatus in 2016. To that end, HUFF is presenting a KILLER double bill at The Carleton with our own Erin Costelo Band and a cool act we discovered from London, Ontario – Olivia & The Creepy Crawlies – making their first-ever trip east on Sunday, August 28th. Show time is 8:30 PM and tickets are only $17.50!

One would be hard-pressed to find a more respected – and downright talented – musician in Halifax than Erin Costelo. She is a serious student of music (as well as a teacher of music) and an accomplished singer/songwriter in the bargain. Her latest album – Down Below The Status Quo – features some of the best musicians in the city and was produced over the course of a year at Joel Plaskett’s New Scotland Yard studios under the watchful eye of engineer Thomas Stajcer. Olivia & The Creepy Crawlies are a five-piece folk band formed in London, Ontario. Their quirky songs tug at your heartstrings with themes of love and loss, mad kings and super-villains. Utilizing everything from ukuleles to glockenspiels and autoharps to telecasters, they entertain all of your whimsical fantasies. Soft melodies and catchy hooks will have you itching to pick up a ukulele and play along. The band is currently based out of Toronto and Hamilton Ontario, and are comprised of: Olivia Borkosky, Chris Denise, Aurora Evans, Connor Grieve, and Kelly Samuel.
