Duke & Goldie (Eric Duquette and Jena Gogo) from Blue Sky Miners, team up with west coast balladeer John Gogo for a special matinée performance at The Carleton on Sunday, May 14th. Show time is 4 PM and tickets are a steal at $15 + HST.
Walking the line between warm folk storytelling and an upbeat mystical country twang are Vancouver-based duo Duke & Goldie. The musical partnership of Jena “Goldie” Gogo and Eric “The Duke” Duquette, each longtime members of roots rock band Blue Sky Miners, has produced an exciting new sound said to “revive the charm of the 60’s and 70’s Laurel Canyon music scene”.
Their debut single Courage, released in February 2023, has been met with glowing reviews and was promptly featured in Exclaim!’s roundup of the “Best New Canadian Music”. On stage the pair weave their cascading vocal harmonies over acoustic guitar-laden arrangements to tell stories that roam from rocky mountain highs to mysterious remote deserts, while navigating their roles as settlers in this land. At the heart of it all, Duke & Goldie’s magnetic chemistry on stage is what continues to captivate audiences wherever they go.
John Gogo is best known for writing and singing folksongs about people & places, truths & tales of Western Canada. From Haida Gwaii to St. John’s to Old Crow, John’s played community halls & big houses, festivals & pubs, theatres & beer parlours. Having co-written and co-starred in the touring production ‘Good Timber – Songs & Stories of the Western Logger’ he now has his own one-man ‘John Gogo Coal & Wood Show’ to re-launch in 2024.
