Fredericton’s latest kick-ass exports The Hypochondriacs return to Halifax, this time with assistance from Toronto’s Lost Cousins and local Jake Duggan, for a show at The Carleton on Friday, July 6th. Show time is 10 PM and admission is $10 at the door. That’s THREE great bands for one low price. You can’t beat that with a stick (or anything else, for that matter)!
Hailing from Fredericton, NB, this four piece powerhouse is taking Eastern Canada by storm with their high octane live show; prolific heartfelt ballads, and superb musicianship. A much needed whiskey shot in the arm for a new generation raised on Corporate radio and Walmart Country.
Lead by tbrothers Josh Bravener (singer songwriter/guitar) and Aaron Bravener (drums/vocals); along with the stunning Justine Koroscil (vocals/percussion) and seasoned bass player Jamie Guitar, the HYPOCHONDRIACS have resurrected from the traditional country crypt a fresh and raw take on the standard genre. Though profoundly influenced by the likes of George Jones, Hank Williams and Johnny Cash, through further inspection one will hear early Memphis rockabilly all the way up to the ’80s cowpunk movement…. Brace for impact!
For the indie psych rock outfit Lost Cousins, grappling with life transitions—and the domino effects of those choices—is at the core of their sprawling, celestial-sounding debut LP to be released in 2019 via Pheromone Recordings. The record is a sweeping, anthemic tribute to the things one loses or gives up; the places one longs for, especially as one grows up and moves on. Pushing forward and leaning into change isn’t as easy as it looks. It’s a record that spans the entire country and collapses back into itself; feeling like a swelling tide in the ocean with a significant, sweet comedown when the tide settles on the beach.
The band has toured throughout Canada and the United States, including opening spots for The Strumbellas, Hollerado, and The Wooden Sky. Recent Canadian festival performances include sets at Wayhome (2015), CityFolk (2016), NXNE (2017), and Hillside Festival (2017). Lost Cousins is Dylan Cantlon Hay (bass guitar), Cam Duffin (drums), Lloyd McArton (guitar, saxophone), and Thomas Dashney (keyboards.)
Jake Duggan is a Classic/Outlaw country singer songwriter from Tatamagouche NS.
