Saint John music scene godfather Brent Mason brings his full band to The Carleton to celebrate the release of his 10th album – High Water Mark – on Tuesday, November 21st. Dave Carroll is going to open the show with a solo set. Show time is 7:30 PM and tickets are only $10.
Brent Mason has achieved ‘icon’ status over the last couple of decades of playing music in his home town of Saint John and in New Brunswick generally. He’s just released his 10th record – High Water Mark – and is celebrating this landmark with an appearance at The Carleton.
Brent has earned his stripes, paid his dues and knows where the bodies are buried. A multiple ECMA and Music NB nominee and winner, Brent’s music is an intelligent and affecting amalgam of folk, blues, country and rock that he makes into his own unique roots music sound. “World class storytelling” (Jeff Liberty, CBC) in the songs combined with a live sound with his band that touches on Dylan, the Dead, the Waterboys and even John Prine. As the #1 most watched YouTube Music Video in the world in July 2009, United Breaks Guitars has been called ‘one of the most important [videos] in Google’s history,’ and became a metaphor for change and innovation. Dave Carroll and United Breaks Guitars are now recognized as ‘household names.’ United Breaks Guitars won the 2009 Music Nova Scotia Video of the Year Award and Dave Carroll was award the 2009 Music Nova Scotia Digital Artist of the Year. Dave was also nominated for the 2010 ECMA for Entertainer of the Year.
