The Halifax Jazz Festival presents ‘In C’ + Anteater on Thursday, March 30 at The Carleton. Show time is 8:30pm and admission is $7 at the door.
‘In C’ is a modern minimalist piece of music. It consists of 53 musical phrases played sequentially, each repeated an arbitrary number of times before moving to the next. The piece typically lasts between 45 and 90 minutes.
Terry Riley‘s performance notes for ‘In C’ say that the band should have around 35 musicians. Riley also says you can have fewer. Join bassist Casey Thompson as he gathers together some of Halifax’s finest musicians together to present this epic piece.
An ever evolving ensemble, at the March 30th show expect to hear:
D’Arcy Gray, Michelle Footz, Kye Ehresman, Andrew MacKelvie, Liam Ring, Lukas Pearse, Andrew Jackson, Adam Seto, Ally Fiola, Elizabeth O’Hanley, Evan Mahaney, Brendan Melchin, James Shaw, Casey Thompson, Ross Burns and many more!
Following this musical tsunami will be a set by local modern jazz experiment ANTEATER.
Anteater brings together six of Halifax’s most sought after musicians and thrusts them into a high-intensity exploration of risk and chance. The music of Anteater ranges from dense and chaotic to delicate and free, both seething and soothing. Original & explosive.
