There might be the odd Canadian band out there with more cred than The Good Brothers but we’re hard-pressed to think of them. We’re very proud to announce that they will be playing their inaugural show at The Carleton on Monday, April 18th.  Show time is 8 PM and tickets are $25 advanced or $30 (as if) at the door.

GoodBrothers

The Good Brothers8 consecutive Juno awards for Best Country Group, headlined gigs at Massey Hall, Roy Thompson Hall, The National Arts Centre, performed countless shows at L.A.’s Universal Amphitheatre with (their mentor) Gordon Lightfoot, etc. etc. – have gained a worldwide audience over the course of their accomplished career.

They’ve been honoured as the 2004 inductees at the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame as well as two nominations for Country Group and Roots Artist of the year at the Canadian Country Music Awards. They’ve toured Europe 26 times, where their loyal legion of fans embrace them time and time again; you know, they’ve been acknowledged!

The first show of their career (Bruce & Brian Good, with James Aykroyd) was at Maple Leaf Gardens with Grand Funk Railroad(!) Then came the cross-Canada tour on the outrageous Festival Express with The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Ian & Sylvia and The Band. With a little help from friends The Dead and Jefferson Airplane, they recorded their first album on Columbia records. Gigs at San Francisco’s famed Fillmore West and L.A.’s Troubadour and in Northern California with The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service were monumental.

Brian and Bruce joined forces with younger brother Larry in 1973 and performed their first gig at the legendary Riverboat in Toronto’s Yorkville district on May 14, 1974. It wasn’t long before The Good Brothers were packing the fabled El Mocambo five nights a week, breaking bar records, attendance records, and exhausting determined dancers.

Their self-titled debut album went platinum and their 2003 album, One True Thing, was voted Canada’s Independent Album of the Year. Their music encompasses country, bluegrass, folk and the occasional selection from their rock and roll songbook.

Oh, if you’re of a certain – younger – age, you might know that Dallas and Travis Good from The Sadies are the sons of Bruce Good. If you know that, you know the apples – in this case – do not fall far from the tree.
