As part of African Heritage month, vocalist Karlene Marie, along with band members Silvio Pupo (keyboards), Jeff Torbert (guitar), Kyle Tully (bass) and Andrew Miller (drums) present Saraka! This inaugural event – which takes its inspiration from a Caribbean immigrant mama’s name for day-old food mixed with a fresh, simple ingredient to bring one nourishing, completely delicious and affordable new meal to the family table – happens at The Carleton on Sunday, February 26th. Live music gets underway at 7 PM and tickets are $23.50 + HST
Saraka! will be celebrated through a musical menu of delectable songs from eras past, made legendary by Black American artists of African descent.
The night will feature feel-good jazz and saucy mixes combined with other tasty genre-adjacent tunes. Karlene Marie brings together a four piece combo of some of her favourite artists and people.
This intimate evening of sharing welcomes all to the musical feast for some “soul” food served up with lots of love. Expect surprises, including close up views of artwork by the talented Nigerian, Halifax-based visual artist, Boma Nnaji
