Indefinable local duo Lashes celebrate the release of their new When The Internet Calls album with a show at The Carleton on Friday, September 24th. Ottawa’s Graven, in town recording his own album will do the opening honours. Show time is 8 PM and tickets are only $10 + HST.

Lashes is a Halifax based electronic post punk loop duo.

Our first studio album under the name Lashes is set to release on September 27, 2021. At the beginning of this year, we decided to change our band name from Labor Camp to Lashes in hopes of reflecting our changed sound and allow the band to be more approachable. “When The Internet Calls” is a departure from our original John Maus worship style. We set out to make the album by creating a vagrant to be our protagonist, our idea was to create someone who embodied a lot of the insensitivity and self indulgence we felt we see in other men and ourselves. Our thought was, although bashful in nature, the truth is a lot of men are very lonely and withdrawn without a place to express themselves apart from lashing out.

So, this is an album where we hope to capture the essence of that, with songs about suicide, falling in love with sex workers or strangers on the internet, obsession with fame and celebrity status for hope of redemption and of course reconciliation but only ever with ourselves. All culminating in an ever-confident self loathing hero. Were hoping to recreate a lot of macho 80s Bruce Springsteen style but make it a parody of itself.

Graven (Matty McKechnie) has released 14 albums. Born in Nepean, Ontario, his latest record “Years” (produced by Jim Bryson) is his most sonically daring to date. the far-away sonic landscapes are ear-candy rich and flush with rolling hills of feels. With meditational nature-based themes and relational overtones, Graven is at his playful best and swimming in his deepest depth.“
